SSB: LIFE ITSELF 2011-2021
Thanks again for agreeing to help me do some research. A lot of these things either require a test subject or made me worried I might be stuck waiting for help if anything went wrong. Milan is an excellent bodyguard and friend, but he gets a little impatient when it comes to research.
Ciel brightly smiled at Ringo, thankful as always for her continued dedication and friendship, as she introduced her to the newly laid out room. A bunch of objects sat on raised pedestals, some of them marked with warning symbols and all of them having a digital screen not far below the top that could be read for what little information was known about them with few exceptions.
Of course, for anything that might not be safe I'll be the test subject. The Life Sphere doesn't legally forbid testing on other people, ...but that's not... something I consider good or ethical. I wouldn't feel right treating anyone that way, especially you.
Ciel's brow furrowed at that last part. There was a polite suggestion that she maybe had some criticism of the life sphere's leadership. And in all fairness, she had a point. The laws in the sphere were extremely lax in general, often working on the honor system and the don't be evil or we'll beat you up system. Beyond extremely basic things dealing with stuff like murder, property damage and theft there really wasn't a whole lot in the actual law books!
That being said, no matter what happens it's very important that we both do our best to stay calm and document the results. If I do get hurt, that's okay. It's only temporary. If something weird happens, that's okay too. Strange things are often poorly documented, which means they can yield unique knowledge very easily.
Ciel began to step forward, positioning herself in the center of the room next to the cookpot pedestal, gesturing to it and the strange potion nearby as she spoke.
This mysterious magic potion and this curious magical pot are the most likely suspects. I'd like it if we could test everything today, but I'll understand if we can't. Where would you like to start?
Objects in need of Testing
A mysterious candle sits at a white pedestal free of any warning signs. It comes to life at your touch with a ghostly purple flame, but could easily be passed over as unremarkable otherwise.
A mysterious pot sits atop a pedestal. A yellow and black warning pattern wraps around the base of it though, hinting at its magical nature. A digital screen gives some rudimentary information as followed.
Warning: Mildly psychoactive to the touch. Appears to be magical in nature, but I have been unable to figure out what it does on its own. I feel that it must be intended to be used on someone, rather than on its own.
A weird potion sits on a pedestal, marked with a yellow and black warning symbol. The digital screen in front of it simply reads "Unusual Magic Potion". It could do any number of wacky shenanigans!
Biometal Model A
Heart of Compassion
Expiremental Starvia Cure
A biometal floats above a pedestal, just kinda quietly chilling there. Unfortunately, people can't normally hear them when they talk. A digital screen gives a bit of information on why it is here, displaying as followed.
This biometal is used for testing biommatch compatibility. A blood transfusion is necessary for testing purposes.
This mysterious crystal reacts to nearby feelings of love, compassion, passion, affection and closeness by shimmering with light. Might it do something if sufficiently fed? It's not clear on the digital display if there's anything more to it than this.
A vial of modified delfino goop sits on a pedestal. A yellow and black warning pattern wraps around the base of it, and a digital screen gives some rudimentary information as followed.
Warning: Not for healthy individuals. Likely causes severe sickness. Should only be applied to infected tisssue samples or infected individuals.
Near the laboratory that Ciel was in, a large bird that was in reality a flying pinata was fluttering it's wings towards the building to deliver someone on it, who was standing on his back which due to his plastic and cardboard appearance, didn't really mind. The person was Rosalyn Hollotus and together with her close friend Pippi, they were looking down at the laboratory as they fast approached it. "This is her laboratory? Looks less secured then Eggmans." Pippi was honest, but not as brutally honest as Rosalyn. "Or mine. At least you get questioned head to toe at Eggman's. But right now, i'm here to help Ciel help the world."
As the bird lowered itself near the building, Pippi was concerned about Rosalyn's other plan. "But Rosalyn, what about your other plan, you know? The one where you intend to become mayor of this area?" He asked his crush, who shrugged. "That's still on the table Pippi, but if we manage to cleanse this planet of Starvia and we can begin making more cities and towns outside the Life Sphere. Maybe I can become mayor of my own town, I would call it New Suburbia!" Parry the bird finally landed near the lab and Rosalyn jumped off of him.
"But Suburbia didn't welcome zombies...Or plants." Pippi said. "Well if we do construct New Suburbia plants and zombies who don't want to be evil are welcomed along with everyone else here. Anyway seeya, remember to send out onion beacon's to locate where Shizuka is!" Rosalyn waved as Parry began to deliver Pippi back to the treebarn. Pippi simply waved happily towards Rosalyn as the girl turned and entered the laboratory.
"Evening, nice to see you again Ciel, gosh, it must of been since that time with Cortex that we last met each other." Rosalyn recounted that mission where they had to help Cortex get that power crystal. However that was a long time ago and it was time to focus on the present, and right now Rosalyn was focused on the strange potion, she walked to it and examined the potion closely.
She picked up the potion and examined it before looking back at Ciel. "Do you know what's in this potion? Just for safety reasons." Rosalyn also opened up her brown bag and took out a pen and notepad which she was going to use to study her findings during her experiments on Ci---Research! Research and studying on Ciel.
Of course, she wanted to know if Ciel knew what was in this potion, because for all she knew she would be held responsible if Ciel randomly exploded thanks to whatever was in this...Strange potion.
Lab equipment, notebook, safety goggles, just about the essentials for a science experiment is on Ringo's person for the day ahead. She listened to the procedure carefully, as one wrong move can be bad news. All of those experiments blowing up in Risukuma's hands kinda prepared her for that. Although, Ciel herself as the guinea pig does leave her a little apprehensive. Sure the side effects might come in all sorts of wacky things, but what if something goes horribly wrong?
"Hey, just so you know, don't be afraid to put things on hold if it goes really badly, okay?"
After expressing her concerns, Ringo proceeded to look over the different reagents and chemicals to test. Ringo's seen the Strange Potion before, but has no idea what the contents are. She has the same concoction herself, but hasn't tried to drink it yet. Well, what better way than to test the contents right here and now?
"I've had my eye on that flask for a while. It looks like something Risukuma would have in the labs, but I haven't figured out what it is without proper tests."
You're always welcome, Rosalyn~! The first floor is a public library and research center, after all. We'll be serving gingerbread men to guests through the holidays.
Ciel explained. There were no book cases in sight, though. Rather, a large computer on one wall offered digital E-books of all the material Ciel had been able to collect here on Li, plus some books of her own on various subjects. All for the low, low price of free! They cost almost nothing to replace, after all. Thankfully, the bizarre economy on Li had made it very easy for Ciel to pick up books, which most people weren't even willing to buy. Some of them were practically given away by owners who simply couldn't find a place for them. They, of course, were in the far side of the room that consisted of the laboratory. Steriles surfaces, tables and tools lined the walls, but these items were perhaps unnecessary.
Ciel flashed a bright smile at RIngo in response to her concerns, nodding knowingly. She assumed it would become readily evident if things went too far. If she lost consciousness or was unable to concentrate because of some horribly toxic concoction that would be her cue to rush to the hospital.
I can't be certain! I've been able to determine that it isn't harmful to organic material. It also does not react to air, water, or heat, which means it's likely not explosive. There seems to be some kind of sediment dissolved in it... If I had to take a guess, it must be some kind of specialized potion for a very specific purpose, but I can't say what exactly that is without trying it myself. The sediment would seem to suggest that its supposed to take a trait from whatever was dissolved in it either to enhance the potion's function or give that trait to whoever drinks it. Would you like to test this first?
Ciel moved to the potion and uncorked it. As promised, it didn't violently explode. How nice! She looked to Rosalyn and Ringo though, waiting for their decision. As much as she could probably handle drinking a potion on her own, she needed to know that someone was watching her in case something did go wrong and she lost the ability to communicate. Nothing like a sudden onset of helplessness to give someone a good scare, but she had no reason to believe this potion was intended to trick anyone. It was so very easy to make a potion that simply exploded in your hands or was toxic levels of acidic. And poison? Why would you ever go through the trouble of posioning the most suspicious drink possible??
Rosalyn's interests increased when Ciel mentioned a library, but dropped when she held out gingerbread men and took a step back. It's great that she didn't drop the strange potion since Ringo had it, because she would of definitely done so if this happened while she was holding it, she simply waved the cookies back. "Uhh no thanks. I'm friends with a gingerbread guy and it would be considered cannibalism to eat someone like him, so because of him i'm on a non gingerbread man diet." Rosalyn explained as she held onto her notepad and pen tightly.
"They seem good though." She slurped her lips before turning to Ringo. "Well, I still suggest we should use some sort of disease tissue to test it out first, but seeing as how one piece of starvia could cause potential harm to the Life Sphere. I say we go ahead and let Ciel test it. Besides she gave us our blessing so we won't be held responsible if something does go wrong. But if what Ciel explained is right, then this will be an easy first test and step for a potential Starvia cure." Rosalyn nodded before turning towards Ciel, waiting for Ringo to give her the potion so she can write down the results in her notepad.
Which had a picture of a Moonflower at the back of it.

Whilst the group was deciding their plan of action, a collection of Chanseys burst through the entrance. There was about three of them in total, one seeming to be the leader, with the other two slowly waddling behind. Should any of the three manage to catch sight of anything behind the leader, they would notice that the duo was carrying a precious cargo, something very important to their efforts, Mr. Game & Watch. Before they could just simply be handed custody, the leader halted her posy and waddled forward, tapping the ashes off the end of her cigarette in the process.
The giant pink egg approached the trio, though she was making a b-line toward Ciel more than the others. It could be assumed that she was starring directly at the scientist as well, but they wouldn’t be able to tell due to her black glasses hiding her eyes. The Pokemon nodded to the woman and then spoke her piece. “Lightweather security, at your service” she said in a shockingly low tone. “One Game & Watch, under special request. From this point forward, no one gets in, no one gets out, got it?” the creature commanded whilst pointing her stubby little hand at Ciel. “We don’t want no risks of kidnapping. If any of youse is a Starvia spy, youse better confess now, your punishment will be much less severe, capisce?” she further warned as she took the cigarette out of her mouth.
With that said, the leader Chansey snaps her fingers/amorphous blob of a hand and the duo release their hold of the Flat Zoner. The leader turns away and begins to walk back the way she came, though upon reaching the halfway point, she turns her rotund body partially back around. “We wait outside. Don’t youse worry, nothing gets through us” the Chansey stated, holding up the trinket at the end of its neck chain. Those well versed in the Pokemon universe would identify the object as the eviolite. With one last knuckle crack from the leader’s cronies, the trio made their leave, abandoning the woozy Game & Watch in the middle of the room.
The flat figure sat on the floor, slowly taking in his surroundings, though the longer he investigated, the less sense it made to him. Regardless of how deep into cure development the Lightweather Hospital was, they were still extracting so much of his body mass that it made common functions quite the chore to achieve. Either way, he unsteadily wobbled onto his feet and began to walk over to the team in his signature pixelated manner, though his movements were much more unpredictable than usual. One minute he could be moving toward them, the next frame he would veer off, but then by the following frame he would be back on track. It was far more confusing for him than it was for the others to witness.
Mr. Game & Watch decided that he made it far enough for the time being, managing to walk three feet forward. Once he stopped in his tracks, he straightened himself out and then saluted, as though he was ready and reporting for duty. Whatever that was. He assumed it had something to do with bodily extractions, it seemed like everyone loved to do that.
Just as she was about to do some initial analysis, a group of Chansey interrupted her analysis to bring in a testing subject. Ooookay. That was an interesting sight. It's almost as if goods were being smuggled in like they were in some ring. Let's not think about that too heavily. They're just giving some tight security about classified goods. Turning back to the potion, at a glance, the solution is stable upon uncorking. It doesn't appear to fizz either. Ringo hasn't tried drinking it, but it's said that it's possible to consume it, to some dubious effect. Putting chemicals close to her face is a bad idea, but the potion seems to lack odor. At least within an arm's length.
On the table space in front of her, Ringo's jotting down notes on the initial analysis, formatted as such...
appears to be stable, minimal bubbling
doesn't emit a strong scent, probably faint or even odorless
apparently consumable, but ill-advised
"I wonder... Is there an immediate reaction upon contact? If there are pipettes ready, I do want to try testing a few drops."
She asked, carefully passing the potion over to Rosalyn. Don't want any spills or slip-ups.
The look on Ciel's face was far easier observed than described. To put it simply, she did not understand. She had an open mind, of course, but frankly everything about what Rosalyn had just said sounded insane. What was she supposed to say to that? She couldn't even form a coherent thought in response to that! The thoroughly flustered scientist withdrew her offer, looking down to the cookie in her hand in search of understanding that simply wasn't there.
Oh! Alright. ...I'll try and make something else next time. I wouldn't want the library to feel like a hostile place for any gingerbread people visiting. There was a recipe for walnut pastries that looked nice.
And then, Ciel promptly turned about and ate the gingerbread man cookie. ...Well, she couldn't just put the cookie back! She hoped she wasn't about to get assaulted for eating a cookie. That suddenly seemed like a reasonable concern, but she just had to trust in a better nature than that. ...God, she hoped there weren't other sentient versions of food living in the sphere. That was the last thing they needed during a famine--food rights activists.
Who would write up a villain like that anyway?
It sounds like something straight from the Life Sphere Mall.
Something that only shows up when the heroines are trying to take a break and do something normal for once.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Ciel, I have bad news.
And then, Mr. Game and Watch was introduced to them. Ciel had to do a double take at G&W. She was ... not a medical doctor. Not in the sense that she'd seen this before and had any idea what to do with something like well--him. His biology was simply alien, but thankfully she had faith in her ability to improvise. This wasn't surgery. All she was doing was taking a bit of blood, a very basic procedure that she'd seen done before. She couldn't help but notice his erratic behavior though. It was hard enough for her brain to process what she was seeing moving in 3D space, but the way she expected him to move was defeated in short order. A part of her was tempted to pass it off as being nothing, ...but she couldn't just do that to G&W.
Thank you very much. ...Everyone, this is Mr. Game and Watch. He has been very generously helping develop the cure for the starvia for some time now through donations. His 'blood' is surprisingly similar to the virus--but completely inert.
Ciel them went to fetch the gingerbread cookies, as well as a simple glass of water. There were a few places to sit down and relax of course, including several tables meant for people to read at if G&W were so inclined. She'd always felt just a tad guilty knowing just how long G&W went without leaving a hospital bed. It wasn't any way to live, but far be it from her to force him to leave. Apparently it was all voluntary! None-the-less, she felt compelled to treat this particular guest with the utmost generosity.
How're you feeling, Mr. Game and Watch? It must be nice to get out of the hospital for a while... I don't think we're ready to test the expiremental cure I made just yet, but you're welcome to help yourself to some cookies and a drink if you'd like. Once my assistants are ready we'll make sure you're feeling alright and then we can get going. I shouldn't need very much for this particular test.
After offering G&W something to eat and drink, and a seat, she'd meander her way back to the lab side of the house. This time, she'd return with a couple of syringes. One was a backup, just so she wouldn't have to walk all the way across the building if the first one got dirty. If she didn't need it, she could probably make use of it for testing on Model A, who silently floated over to watch Game and Watch. Well--not silently, but no one but Ciel was currently attuned to him and could hear him. Whoever had built him had used Ciel's designs. Thankfully, they hadn't been able to cut her out and she retained her 'master key', so to speak. Carefully getting the syringes down on a glass box containing the starvia cure. That entire area was extremely sterile because of what was contained within. she then moved to approach Ringo and Rosalyn again. In her other hand was a pipette, also clean and ready to use. She offered Ringo the tool.
That's an excellent idea, Ringo. I don't think this particular potion will cure the starvia... Unfortunately, the nature of the virus necessitates that a cure is likely very toxic. It's just a matter of destroying the starvia without taking the victim with it. This may yet prove to be useful in its own way though. Just maybe.
With that, she turned over the pipette and eyed her arm in waiting. She'd need to be ready to offer it when the time came.
Rosalyn's brow raised at Ringo, what the hell was pipette? They sound like nice test subjects but since Ciel insisted on testing the potion, she might as well give it to her once she's ready. However before Rosalyn could, the fourth member of this mission arrived, with a group of three Chansey's who appeared to act tough. "Wow, I didn't expect Chansey's to be this tough, this is impressive." Rosalyn smirked, before rubbing her chin. "No, but I do have a list of potential residents of this sphere who I believe can't be trusted with anything, with a cat named Big being on the top of said list." Rosalyn explained, but now they were left with G&W, someone who couldn't talk but it seemed he was willing to help the girls find the potential starvia cure.
And judging from Ciel, he appeared to be tested on for awhile, which gave Rosalyn an idea now that she was holding the potion. She watched Ciel comfort G&W and walked over to the two. "Oh, let me help you two." Rosalyn held the potion tight, but when she was close to the glass of water. She quickly added a few drops of the potion into the glass so G&W could secretly drink it, the liquid was the same colour as water anyway so hopefully the 8-bot 3D man won't notice anything strange about the glass of water. Rosalyn placed the potion on the table for Ciel to grab, as she waited for Game and Watch to drink the water.
"Uhh yeah, you must be thirsty for all that work you did. You earned it Game and Watch." Rosalyn smiled, before walking back towards Ringo and gasped in surprise. "Wait, were really going to use those things?" Rosalyn pointed towards pipette and gulped.
She turned towards Game and Watch, seeing if he drank the glass of water that was laced with the potion yet.

Everything still seemed a bit dreary to Mr. Game & Watch, the only time he could remember leaving his hospital bed was in his dreams. From what he could remember being emphasised because according to his nurse he’s made several attempts to escape his room. He had no idea why or how, but it was always fun to come up with his own reasonings.
As the pleasant doctor gave his introductions, G&W placed his hands on his hips and took a stoic stance. He was just as great as she was making out to be, wasn’t he? He could see the future headlines. Mr. Game & Watch’s selfless act of pure kindness leads to the Starvia’s cure! Should they erect another statue in his honour or hold an annual parade… It was hard for him to decide. Maybe if he finds a cure on his own, they could do both! He shook his head though. He was getting delusional again, he was helping people because it was the right thing to do, not another shot at fame and glory, right?
Either way, the 2-D man allowed his escort to direct him to a nearby table, nodding along with her dialogue since he couldn’t quite respond in any way that she could make sense of. He took hold of the glass of water he received, though placed it back as Ciel continued to fill him in on the situation, which allowed Rosalyn to sneak a drop of label-less potion into his drink. He was relieved to hear that there were very little bodily extractions going on, so much so that he felt a cool glass of water was ripe for celebration. That little girl was right, he deserved that glass of water! And maybe two or three cookies while he was at it!
The 2-D man took a mighty swig of his drink, but almost immediately afters he spat it right back out, gagging from the concoction entering his mouth. Those fools! It was 3-D water! Did they intend on making him choke on their disgusting fat molecules? Regardless of that, the drink struck something odd in him, but then again, it was difficult for him to ingest any 3-D object. He leaned over the table and began to upchuck all over the surface, (inactive) Shadow Bugs spraying everywhere. Most importantly, the substance was mixing in with the Strange Potion that was once in his drink.
"A cure that kills the cells but not the host. Let's see..."
Ringo put her gloves on and took the pipette for the potion that returned to the table. The dishes needed were laid out in front of her, prepared for a testing. Just when she was about to siphon some of the potion, she froze up upon hearing the beeping and buzzing of G&W coughing up over something. It sounded like an old computer having too many issues for what it's worth, and the sudden-ness of it spooked Ringo. What the heck did he choke on???
"What's going on!?"
To make matters worse, G&W hacked up Shadow Bugs everywhere! They were thankfully inert, but the sight of them being everywhere is still frightening. What's worse is that some of the bugs got into the potion! Ringo backed off in a panic, as the procedures have been thrown off-course. The control chemical has been ruined!
"Ciel! Some of those blob-bug-whatsitcalleds got into the potion!"
Ciel was horrified and confused. She'd been so focused on being a welcoming host for G&W that Rosalyn had managed to slip what apparently amounted to poison into Game & Watch's drink! Of course, it wasn't actual poison--no more than the water had been anyway. It was, however, very much something he ought not to have ingested.
O-Oh, oh dear... I'm so sorry! I need to clean this up. Are you okay..?
...But before Ciel could stop having a heart attack and trying to guess whether the water supply or her sink had somehow been contaminated, something ... truly terrible began to happen. The potion had not been ingested in a meaningful amount for G&W, but it... did begin to react with the shadow bugs. The magic inherited by the potion permeated their membranes, breaking down the shadow bug's defenses and allowing the potion itself to permeate them. The potion had been innocent enough in its own right, a simple polymorph potion designed to transform someone into someone else. However, ...the shadow bugs, on the other hand, were far more volatile. The potion, in a way, did more damage than good to them. However, the radical changes to their physiology...
The now brilliant gold bugs rose into the air and began to swarm the room, blindly searching for someone--something to cling to. They knew only the burning sensation that had been afflicted on them by the improperly applied potion, and the hunger it gave them. A burning desire to complete themselves that they could never know relief from, yet relentlessly strived toward. Some of the bugs would land on the group and begin biting at them. Their bites were... Well, they were bug bites, comparable to bee stings in terms of pain. Not fun, but not exactly life-threatening. A thoroughly confused and terrified Ciel squealed and covered her face with her hands, trying to protect herself from the stinging without much success. Trying to attack them was like swatting at a fly. It didn't accomplish much for the most part. In particular, the bugs seemed to take a liking to Model A because he lacked the limbs to shoo them away and they could just go to town on him without reprisal.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!! DON'T JUST STAND THERE, HELP ME!! THEY'RE BITING MY SENSORS!! I SHOULD HAVE NEVER LEFT ASHE'S SIDE!! THIS IS SO. MUCH. WORSE. THAN HER AWFUL JOKES!!
...Not that anyone but Ciel could hear him. Probably. However, after a good long moment of stingy badness, the bugs had accomplished what they set out to do. They abruptly returned to the center of the room, massing together and beginning to expand. In fact, they expanded ... exponentially. At no point or time had the shadow bugs been able to do that. Normally they just amassed in great enough numbers to create the mass they needed, but with only a handful, these were stretching out to take shapes seemingly beyond their capability! And then... twisted human figures began to form. Familiar figures.
It was... the group themselves. To Ciel's astonishment, confusion and horror, she found herself staring into her own eyes. Her doppelganger looked back at her without recognition or life, much like the others for their originals. ...Well, G&W's just kinda looked like him--only you somehow got the sense you were being stared into when looking at him regardless of what he was actually doing. Each of them had a brilliant gold aura about them.
They looked... They looked like infected. Gold. Infected.
Infected in the life sphere.
Alouette crept downstairs to see what was going on, only to stop at the top of the stairs and hug her doll more tightly to her body.
However, then something strange happened. The golden glow faded, leaving only the rather inhumane look in their eyes as the only indication that they were not, in fact, real. The doppelganger of Ciel then promptly drew her buster pistol... and shot Ciel on the spot before she could realize what was going on and react, dead center in her chest. Seizing up Alouette promptly fled back into her room. Nah. The scientist went down with a yelp, clutching at her chest in pain, and the other doppelgangers followed suit. They approached their originals with the same flat, empty-eyed glare on their faces. Ringo's took a bite out of her apple in a manner that somehow managed to come off as threatening, as if they were putting on a demonstration...
Maybe it would be best not to find out how much worse their bites were now.
More importantly, what had Ciel, and definitely not Rosalyn sneakily putting something in G&W's drink, done?! What had she unleashed upon the world?!

Rosalyn watched Game and Watch react to the potion negatively and began to hastily write it down in her notepad. "It appears the subject is reacting badly to the potion that I spiked his drink with." She proceeded to write what she just said down into her journal before looking back and seeing Game and Watch vomit out some shadow bugs, causing her to take a few steps back and look around at the bugs lying around. "Oh my, I didn't expect him to vomit up the bugs. At least there dead, or else we would be in very much trouble in this sphere if they weren't." However it appeared Rosalyn jinxed the situation.
As they came alive, glowing gold, and proceeded to try and bite her. In her haste, Rosalyn took out her Cat'ONine sword and slashed forward any bugs that tried to bite her. "Ugh, get off!" She yelled to the bugs, once they moved away she ran over to Game and Watch and Ringo. "Oh guys i'm so sorry, I didn't expect any of this to happen. I am fully responsible for all of this." She then turned to see that Ciel has gotten shot by...Herself? "And that as well." Rosalyn was referring to the wound that Ciel had just got.
She stood up to see that her own golden doppelganger was slowly moving towards her and aimed her sword at the clone. "We need to fix this immediately. Who knows what could happen if they escape this laboratory and go out into the Life Sphere, or even mix with the starvia!" Rosalyn charged towards her golden doppelganger and proceeded to slash at her.

Mr. Game & Watch was still a bit woozy from his little incident, not really focusing on what was going on considering that he just lost a bit more of his life essence from his projectile vomiting, something that his body had been lacking function to its fullest to begin with. He wasn’t incredibly concerned about the Shadow Bugs though considering that they were merely harmless in the state that they were in, they were not the same substance that the Subspace Emissary had used in their war. He wasn’t exactly sure what they added to them to make them more aggressive and dangerous, but he didn’t go out of his way to find out.
As the pleasant doctor came to his side, Mr. G&W returned her compassion with an ease of his hand to notify her that he was alright, keeping his previous inner burst of outrage to himself. They didn’t need to know that he might subconsciously resented them and their three-dimensional cookies. As Rosalyn mentioned that she spiked his drink, Game & Watch curiously looked back at his spew, wondering what she could have possibly put in his drink to make it worse.
Whatever it was rapidly mutated the Shadow Bugs, making them take new form and scattering all around the room to start acting like actual bugs, that was a rare sight. The tiny fiends even turned on their old host, had they no shame! Fortunately for G&W, his unconventional weaponry had some conventional use for the first time in forever. To combat the pests, he pulled out his bug spray and began to pump it wildly to fend them off.
It seemed to work, after a few whiffs of his mighty pump, the invading force was fended off. The weakly flat man took to the table top to strike yet another heroic pose. He had successfully fended off the swarm! Perhaps he could gain some sort of fanfare now! Well, perhaps they should hold off the parade, considering that the creatures began to act as they normally would, taking form of their enemies. Mr. Game & Watch was soon faced down by another version of himself, better yet, it was a gold version. It had to be gold, didn’t it? He was certain that the cosmos was having a good laugh right about now. He was basically facing off against a smaller representation of his hubris. Game & Watch wasn’t enjoying the looks he was giving off either.
His foe fumbled forward, though was clearly not as sick as the real deal was. For that same reason, Mr. Game and Watch failed to evade his enemy in any meaningful way, as such the infected creature gave him a little nibble on the shoulder. Beeping in pain, the 2-D figure batted the creature away and wobbled off the table, tumbling toward the set up of stands that housed the test substances. G&W’s head was still spinning from all the action, not really expecting his day out to go so bad so quickly. As his vision cleared, he looked up to the label on the pedestal. ‘Expiremental Starvia Cure.’ Well, he had no clue what the first word meant, but hey, the time for cautious experiments was over, it was time to put this ‘cure’ to the test on the field. While the infected creatures clearly weren’t Starvia, they were similar in some sense, so might as well throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks.
Grabbing the vial, Mr. G&W gazed back at his foe and tossed the substance at it without any regard as to what might happen.
"EMERGENCY! THIS IS NOT A DRILL! The bugs are- ow ow OW OW!"
The bugs are multiplying rapidly, and some have managed to take a nibble on her like a literal apple. This escalated from bad to worse, as those bites eventually culminated into recreating the creation of shadowbug duplicates. Gosh, how did things go this wrong!? She expected some minor setbacks, but this? Then she heard Rosalyn talk about how she spiked a drink...
"Wait, that was YOU!? How could you!? You have to work with a small, controlled sample so we have resources and test specimens to spare! You'll never know a reaction this catastrophic will happen!"
As angry as she is at Rosalyn for violating the procedure of a test lab, doubly so with that insincere-sounding commentary, she doesn't have much luxury to chew her out. There's clones to deal with, and they needed to be quelled before things get worse.
"Actually- SUBDUE THE PROBLEM NOW, SCOLD LATER! THIS IS GETTING OUT OF HAND!"
Ringo grabbed the candle, thinking it'll do something with the bugs, waving it like it were a torch used to shoo away creatures of dark places. Possibly spilling some of its hot wax on the shadowy copy of herself.
