SSB: LIFE ITSELF 2011-2021
Vanitas just stared at the idiot of a girl in front of him as she threatened him. Curious, he didn't think she even had a backbone. "....Interesting so the frail little girl can do more than just complain." Vanitas had ignored most of what Madotsuki had said to him. Threats against him were useless and honestly he didn't have time to even care about her petty attitude. Axel seemed to have the right of it for once, they needed to focus on the objective.
Though at him being called Masky was a little irritating he also ignored this statement and got back to work. "I have no time for this. The redhead is correct for once, we should focus on the mission." Vanitas then would take notice of what Axel and the others seemed to be looking at right now and move to dodge the lasers.
DEX Roll for Laser Dodge:
Expertly dodging each laser with the movements of a true acrobat Vanitas made it to the other side without issue. Seeing Axel handle those eggs was rather amusing but since the mission counted on it he supposed he would offer to help out. "Hand one of those to me, we don't need you slowing down from carrying too many of those eggs and hindering the misison." He said in almost a demand like insult. Still though this was a good first step really for Vanitas, he offered to help out even though he didn't need to. Vanitas:
1. Ignores Madotsuki's threats. 2. Dodges lasers with ease. 3. Offers to help Axel with the eggs despite making it sound like an insult. 1d20+2
"Whatever this rich crazy lady has done, she stole something important.
And SHE, MUST, BE, PUNISHED, SEVEREY, FOR, THE CRIME, OF, THEIVERY." Madotsuki made no attempt to hide her disdain for the lady that they were looking for, as well as the mysterious item that she had taken. Even though technically, the group were also preforming the crime of breaking into private property, but she saw a silver lining in this mission. If they find out she actually did anymore criminal acts, then the group would be seen as heroes for stopping someone evil.
Axel, Vantias and Dawn can enjoy the heroic praises that they might get from stopping the lady. Madotsuki didn't care, she just needed that item that she stole.
Madotsuki stared at Axel when he suggested that she and Vantia's take some deep breaths or at least a time out due to the tension that was arising between her and the man. "I can't take a time out when the item that we need is in danger of a lunatic." She said. Like Madotsuki ever takes time outs anyway. She barely sleeps these days or takes time to calm herself, she would rather get the task done rather then stand around and not do anything.
But she clenched her fists, because Axel was in the end, right in regards to her attitude regarding Vantias. "But fine. We can deal with this, AFTER the mission." She pointed to Vantias. That way, whatever happens, they wouldn't have any tasks at hand to do and speaking of the mission objective. With the barricaded door down, they just had to go upstairs to continue the mission, unless the group decides that they want to go through the last door that hasn't been checked yet.
And Madotsuki really didn't want too, nor did she want to stay in this hall any longer, but she had to wait for her group to come back now that they made it to where the fabergé eggs were, which they had gotten all four due to their efforts.
Now, they just had to reach back to Madotsuki in the Hall, who was the only person in the group that wasn't in the center of the fabergé egg room, instead she was watching them by the door. She didn't care about the eggs that were strangely painted after Sonic, Tails, Amy and Knuckles, nor did she want to be burned by those stupid lasers.
She didn't say anything about what the trio were doing, although she had a look of impatience towards Axel, Vanitas and Dawn as if to say to the group that she wanted them back here so they can decide on their next path to go down.
She really wanted to go through the barricaded door.
Oh well, at least this gives her a few minutes to be free from Vanitas bickering.
(Congratulations on getting the four fabergé eggs! You have completed the sub-objective of this mission. However you must still make it back to the entrance of the room where Madotsuki is by rolling a 10 dice roll or higher to get past the lasers again. You can use any moves to do this, just as long as you meet with the roll.)
Vanitas just chose to ignore the other two for now as they seemed to be not chiming in with any ideas what to do next. He would proceed to move toward the lasers again and attempt to jump past them with ease like he had done before.
DEX Roll for Laser Dodge:
Vanitas made it! And so he was across the lasers like before. What would he do now though? He was out of ideas right now, something he wasn't usually accustomed to having happen.
"Okay what next?" What was that brat's name again? He didn't dare say that but only because this girl seemed all too upset and unfocused about the mission that she had hired them for. He waited somewhat patiently on the others however, they still needed to get across after all. "Tell me you two can at least do your jobs correctly here, better not waste my time waiting." Vanitas said in an impatient tone of voice. Vanitas:

“Sure! I can hold them...” Dawn replied. She then accepted the egg from Axel. She wasn't much of a physical fighter, but hey, she wasn't too weak to do a little carrying! ...The thought of getting back through the lasers carrying these things didn't even occur to her until she was standing in front of them. It was suddenly her turn, and she hesitated a moment. She then stepped forward...
9AAoz9xSp_1d20 p_1d20 p_1d20
“--Ow, ow!!” Dawn softly blurted out as she stumbled and staggered her way through the beams, burning herself multiple times on the way through. She came out the other side looking just a bit singed. Man, she hoped that didn't get her hair too bad...
“...Alright, gymnastics class don't fail me now.”
Dawn wistfully sighed at having forgotten whatever those classes had taught her and let that sarcastic comment hang in the air for a moment as she delicately brushed her outfit down a bit before producing an orange spraybottle and delicately spraying it on one of her worse burns. She kinda flinched as the spray hit her. It stung briefly, but then it started feeling better a lot quicker than it would've.

She then began meandering off to go check out the other rooms. Specifically, the little voice in her head was asking her to go back and check out that barricaded door.

"Sure, I have faith you can do some carrying. But no dropping them, or I'm gonna raise my eyebrow really condescendingly you." Of course, he had to give her a little shit before the party pressed on - that was a given.
Thieving complete - and now was the time for the party to make their way across the lasers once again. Surely, if he pulled it off once, he could do it again, right?
i|033eBAp_1d20+4(Perception roll for the laser's locations).
And the answer is... yeah, he sure could, with little difficulty, easily picking out where the lasers were at and maneuvering his way through them. Dawn seemed to have... a little more difficulty, earning a chuckle and a "Hey, there are lasers there, you know." from Axel. Was there anything particularly funny about Dawn being burned? Not really, but her lack of grace brought Axel back to Roxas's zombie days.
Of course, with that room taken care of, that only left the question of where to go next, and Axel addressed the thought that he was sure was on everyone's minds. "...I still have doubts that we're looking for is in that room if it was boarded, but if we want to be really thorough, we could investigate that last room."
"Personally, I'm against it. We have a specific target we're looking for, and excessive poking around feels like a pretty easy way to get burned. It's up to you guys, though." Call it a reflex from his Organization days, but Axel didn't feel like getting too far off-target was a good idea. A break-in had enough potential complications with Vanitas and Madotsuki at each other's throats without adding more to the plate.
Finally, everyone had made it back to the hall with the fabergé eggs, which Madotsuki didn't care for, seeing as how she wasn't interested in them and was more interested in her ga---I mean, the item that the cloaked figure had stolen. "Good, we can finally keep going and get what we actually need back." Since the barricaded door was open, Madotsuki wanted to go through there next, as it was likely a shortcut to wherever the woman was.
But before she did, Axel suggested that they should investigate the last room, but he was against it and so was Madotsuki, who had decided to check out the last room anyway. They would fortunately not have to check it out now that the barricaded door was open, if it was still up then they would of had to check out the last door next.
Madotsuki opened the last door and...
She saw four soldiers in strange uniforms walking around in circles and holding spears. They all chanted. "All for her, all for her, all for her." Madotsuki then slowly closed the door, deciding to let those guys do whatever the hell they were doing.
"We're not going through there, unless you all want to act stupid and get yourselves killed, be my guest." Madotsuki looked over at the three, before going towards the once barricaded door, where she began to head up the stairs and towards the door that the Woman had went through earlier, of course, she didn't know that.
She opened the door to find herself in a very fancy amber room. Everything in the room was made out of amber in some way or form, amber floors, amber walls, amber chairs, amber tables, amber music player, amber TV set, playing a sitcom starring a woman named Amber.
And two pathways, one that led to, a normal machinal elevator that looked recently used and which wasn't made by amber compared to everything else in the room. While the second pathway would lead down into a hall where there was three doors, an amber bathroom, an amber kitchen and an amber bedroom. The first two rooms looked ordinary and nothing appeared to be wrong with them.
But there was something wrong with the third room, the Bedroom. When Madotsuki approached it, she noticed that unlike the other two doors, the third door was open, and in the bedroom itself, it was a mess.
It appeared someone was attacked in this room, although one corner of the room had a desk with some papers that appeared to be related to an assignment from Hylia Grace, which meant that whoever lived in this place was a student there.
There was also music playing in an amber stereo player above the desk. It sounded like some good beats to chill out with, but all in all, there was no clues as to the attacker and their victim could of gone, so Madotsuki turned and walked out of the bedroom. "Nothing interesting's in there." She said as she went back to the main part of the Amber room, the Lounge.
"This appears to be some sort of apartment." She then turned towards the Elevator, and realised where the two people that were fighting may have gone too.
Or the victor of the fight, as they could of killed the other, Madotsuki approached the elevator. "Get on, I think we got who we're looking for cornered now if we take this elevator." Madotsuki said as she went into the elevator and waited for everyone else to join her, unless they wanted to go some other way.
Like the room below the one Madotsuki was currently in.

“...Yyyup. I found the lasers~!” Dawn half-heartedly joked.
Dawn could hear the chanting from within the room, her brows furrowing in an expression that could only be described as perturbed. What the heck were they doing in there?? (Someday, people may speak that way of you) the voice in Dawn's head remarked. (Oh, um... Okay. That's a lot to unpack.) Dawn mentally replied. She wasn't sure if that was something she wanted, even. But whatever. She could pry for more information later. She needed to be focused, especially if there were other people in the room nearby. ...Who... hadn't noticed them peak in, she guessed? She supposed reverence like that was probably pretty distracting, and decided not to question their luck any further.
“Yeaaah. The longer we stick around the more likely we are to get caught, right? No need to search the whole house, I guess.”
She followed along for a bit, curiously inspecting the amber room. After a few moments, she piped up again. “Woah. This is some next level decorating. I think we might be in the house of a criminal fashionista of some sort.” Dawn remarked with very mild interest. She was more interested in the room than the person, in truth. She wasn't fond of sketchy types, even if they shared her passion for fashion. “I wonder how she got all these nice things... Can she really be that rich, or did she bring it here with her?” Dawn mused aloud, trying to imagine the scale of crime necessary to become wealthy enough for entire rooms made out of precious stone. It was beyond her, that was for sure.
Once Madotsuki came back and asked her to get in the elevator, Dawn raised both brows. How... did she know that was where they needed to go? She reasoned it probably didn't matter. “Oh... Alright.” Dawn relented, stepping inside with Madotsuki.

...Well, the good vibes from joking about the lasers could only last for so long. There was... well, there was chanting now. "...Man, being able to inspire that kind of loyalty would be pretty impressive it weren't so disturbing. Excuuuuse my language, but what the hell?" To be fair, that was probably the most accurate assessment of the situation that could be provided. What the fuck is that? "Or maybe it's brainwashing or something. Who knows." If it was, there was probably a better way to deal with it, though, than going in guns blazing. Probably best to just... leave that be.
Well, one currently explained what-the-fuck situation later, the party's heading up to an amber room. That... wow. "If they had to make a whole room one color, couldn't they have picked one less offensive to the eyes? That just hurts." Axel complained, as one does, before checking out the other rooms that were present.
"I'm... not sure I'd go as far as to say nothing interesting is here. The messed up room's pretty interesting." Not related to the thievery at hand, though - at least, not at a glance. Could wind up being important later. He wanted to look over the room a bit more, see if he could get a general sense of when Something™ happened, but it seemed everyone was moving on, and... getting into the elevator. Uh.
"...This feels like jumping the gun a bit, guys, I'm not gonna lie. You say we'll corner them, but we could just as easily get trapped ourselves if they shut down the elevator or something. At the bare minimum, we could have one person go down and gauge and its safety first. Probably me." You couldn't just... leap headfirst into this stuff. That's not how stealth missions work. In Axel's experience as an assassin, that's how you got fucked.
For once Vanitas was being a little patient with the others as he waited for the two to get past the lasers. As they progressed they came upon a room with a chanting crowd in it. As this was a stealth mission, he couldn't afford to hang around an area with too many people for long. This was of the utmost importance that they got this done, even if he had some second thoughts about the legitimacy of this mission. He did not care much though as long as it progressed. Coming into a rather gaudy room completely made of amber decorations, Vanitas would be glad his mask shielded him from all this light that was shining with all the brilliance that made the group stick out like a sore thumb.
At Axel's suggestion about not going down the elevator, Vanitas actually agreed with the man again. This was a rarity but Vanitas was starting to understand that Axel had his experience in the organization, which would come in handy in this stealth mission. "Axel is correct again. I suggest we find some stairs instead. If the elevator leads to a populated area like the one we just saw, then we would be in for a fight." Vanitas sighed as he looked back to Dawn and Madotsuki who entered already. "As much as I like fighting, we need to be smart about this. Did anyone see any stairs on the way to that elevator?" he asked with an almost annoyed tone of voice.
Stopped and did not enter the elevator.
Suggested that they take the stairs if their were any.
Madotsuki stopped when she got halfway up the stairs to the Amber Room, as Axel and Dawn talked about the strange soldiers that they had seen in the room that they weren't going in, at least for now, and how Axel thinks that they might be brainwashed. "Great, so we stumbled upon a cult that wants to play my---I mean, steal something important for the Life Sphere." Madotsuki hoped as well that the group wouldn't have to fight them. Not only because there could be a lot of them, but also because it would be a waste of time and would cause the Lady that had stolen the item that they were looking for to escape the Manor that they were currently trespassing in.
When all was said and done, and Madotsuki went into the Elevator to head to the next area, she was stopped when Axel and Vanitas thought that she was being too quick in going to the next floor. As the group would quickly get cornered, likely by more of those weird solider guys that they had seen.
Dawn also commented how someone so rich was able to afford a room that they were currently in. "It's probably fake." Before she turned over to Axel.
"It could be worse." Before she continued, clicking her tongue in the process.
"But you're probably right. If you're that willing to risk your life, then go onto that elevator and then come back down to warn us of any trouble." She then stepped out of the elevator before turning towards Vanitas, who suggested finding an alternate path then to take the Elevator.
"Sure, the nearest alternate path would be a window that I saw in the kitchen. Only, it takes us down to the ground and it will likely kill us if we take that path. If you want to help Axel by checking out the elevator then be my guest, it SHOULD be you anyway." Madotsuki proceeded to turn and sat down at the nearest amber chair that she could find and waited to see whether or not the group will check out the elevator, investigate the Amber room some more, or go back and try out the room with the soldiers and see if they can sneak past them.
Although she started to look rather impatient and hoped that the group would decide what they were going to do soon.
(If you do decide to investigate the Amber room some more, roll a 15 or higher in Wisdom to see if you can find anything that could help with moving forward in the mission.)

"Children. Please, let's pretend to like each other enough to get a mission done." At 'it should be you anyways,' Axel interjects hopefully before Vanitas could respond and this could end in another fight. Good god. This mission made him feel really, really old, for some reason or another. Of course, this didn't really fix the issue at hand.
"Alright. Well, we've vetted everywhere else pretty thoroughly leading up to this point. I'll double back and check out this room a little more, as much as it hurts my eyes, and see if we can't find something or other that could at least indicate that the way going forwards is safe before I take a leap of faith and go down the elevator." Sure, he'd practically volunteered, but it still felt like a bad idea to just kinda... go. Not without being able to see what was going on ahead. He knew Vanitas could go, hypothetically, but he didn't think he could count on Angst Mask to not do something dumb if he was left unsupervised.
Has Axel mentioned that this mission makes him feel old? Between Madotsuki and Vanitas's arguing, and Dawn... actually just being a kid. Hell.
Nonetheless, with his little game plan decided, Axel heads back into the amber room, scanning the area a bit and going over all of the rooms that are present. Was there anything that could catch his eye...?

Dawn kinda blanched. She'd been mostly playing along in the hopes that nobody would notice how inexperienced she was, but that had had the unfortunate side effect of her jumping on board with plans that had obvious flaws when she stopped to actually think about them, using her brain and all that good stuff. “Oh, alright...” Dawn hesitantly replied, eyeing Axel in something resembling concern. Regardless, it didn't seem like they were going in the elevator just yet anyway. She meandered back out of the elevator and began investigating the room again, just kinda blindly looking around, half-heartedly trying not to get distracted.
t3dOTx8Wp_1d20+1 (Gosh, this room sure is full of distracting things!)
She winds up eyeing a strange painting on the wall. “We did see those people in that other room. I guess it's pretty reasonable to assume there's more of them around.” she muses aloud. Whether they'd do the whole elevator trap thing was another story, but elevators weren't great places to have a fight, soooo...
Vanitas was starting to get a little peeved. "Okay kid I get it you have a grudge against me. How about you shut up about it and focus?!" Vanitas scowled at Madotsuki. Honestly her attitude was getting plain annoying at this point. Vanitas would investigate the room with a lot of amber in it. It was pretty easily distracting that was for sure as he looked for something to help progress their situation.
WIS Roll for Check:
Nope he couldn't find anything of interest. Only thing he found was a new hatred for this girl Madotsuki, well not hatred but more of an annoyance. He found her more of a hindrance than anything else despite the fact she was the one that made the mission in the first place. "Nothing over here." Vanitas replied.
STATUS: Annoyed again.
Told Madotsuki to shut up and focus on the mission.
Tried looking for something of interest in the amber room. 1d20+5
Madotsuki walked over to an amber vase and looked under it. "The Lady didn't hide here." She placed the vase onto the amber drawer that she had gotten it from again. Meanwhile, the Painting Dawn was looking at was very weird, it was covered in amber but upon looking at it closer the painting started to resemble someone very familiar.
It was a portrait of Sonic in Shakespearian clothing, gazing at a skull. There was also an engraving under the portrait that said "To Speed or not to Speed." However because that was also covered in amber, it was hard to make out the engraving.
"How about you shut up instead or I'll throw you into an angsty music video, because you'll fit right in!" Madotsuki warned to Vantias not to cross her again.
She was even ready to grab the amber vase and throw it at him again.
There was an amber candle that Axel would find that was lit up below an amber coloured rope, when Axel got closer to it... The candle burnt the rope, where a small amber ball rolled out from the roof and began to move around the room.
Where it activated a number of secret switches from behind the walls of the room, after a number of switches were pressed thanks to the amber ball, it finally stopped when it reached the final switch behind the wall.
Which suddenly caused a hatch to open in the roof and a ladder to fall in the center of the room. The ladder suddenly landing even surprised Madotsuki, but she was stunned to discover another route thanks to Axel. "Huh... Another path?" Madotsuki approached the ladder and touched it, before looking up to where the hatch was leading.
She turned to everyone in the room as she got onto the ladder. "I'll check out what's up here. If there's anything dangerous, I'm going to jump down instead of climb down to warn you guys." Madotsuki then began to climb up the ladder and went into a dark path as she went through the hatch.
"Thanks, by the way." Madotsuki said to Axel as she continued to climb the ladder.
Finally, she bumped into another closed hatch when she reached the top of the ladder. Fortunately however, this hatch was unlocked too, and so Madotsuki opened it to find herself in another room...
A large bedroom this time, however, there was something, weird about this room.
As she climbed into the room and looked around, she noticed posters and portraits on the wall, all of whom were pictures of Sonic throughout the years. "What..." She continued looking at the posters and portraits. All until she reached a large door that was locked, she heard the sound of rain battering down against it, so it was likely that it would lead her outside. However it seems as though the ladder had taken her to the top floor of this Manor.
Madotsuki turned towards the other side of the room, where there was a large blue bed and lying at the front of it was sonic plushies, some of them the same, some of them also resembled his Classic and Sonic Boom appearances.
There was also another Sonic plushie that was doing this...
The carpet was even blue as well as Madotsuki approached the hatch that she came out from. "HEY, THIS HATCH LEADS TO A SONIC THEMED BEDROOM. IT'S SAFE!" She called down to the others from the top of the hatch, before she continued to look around.
Where she came across two doors, where two sounds were coming from both. The first was a locked door, but Madotsuki could hear the muffled sounds of someone in trouble, as well as the sound of banging, implying that the person behind the door was trying to get out, but it was locked.
The second door also had the sound of someone, but it was humming, a woman's humming. Unlike the first door, this one was unlocked and would lead into a normal looking kitchen, compared to the amber coated one in the room below Madotsuki, she approached the door, wearily, and looked through it.
Where she saw it was a woman. Her back turned, she appeared to be humming a tune and washing the dishes, unaware of Madotsuki's presence, there was also a cloak hanging at the side of the room, the one that Madotsuki and Dawn's shadow had saw earlier. Madotsuki began to move away and approach the locked door. It was also very likely that the woman she saw washing dishes just now was the same woman that made off with the item that everyone in the mission was looking for.
But Madotsuki decided that she was going to try and unlocked the locked door first.
Using her knife this time!
(First attempt was a failure.)
(The second however, was successful.)
Madotsuki had managed to remove the doorknob in the door, which caused it to topple over, causing a big crashing sound to be heard throughout the room, as well as the amber room below for the rest of the group to hear as the woman that was trapped in the room toppled out.
She was tied up and gagged, hence her muffled sounds. She looked up towards Madotsuki, and gestured for her to untie her. Madotsuki backed away, facing the door to the kitchen. The woman was still humming, so she must of not have heard the door falling.
But before Madotsuki could help the woman out. She bumped into something and turned and looked up.
Before gasping at what she saw, It was.
The item that they were looking for, In the display case. The real reason Madotsuki created this mission in the first place for.
However the view of the item in question couldn't be seen, due to Madotsuki blocking it with her head. She soon became more focused with getting the item in question, rather then untying the woman.
The rest of the group can do that, and if they want, they can check out the Woman in the kitchen and confront her from stealing the item that the group were looking for.
Or help Madotsuki open the display case to get the item out and find out just what exactly it is.

...Dawn stifled a tiny little giggle at Madoutsuki's remark. Well, she hadn't heard that one before, and she could kind of imagine Vanitas singing to whatever the pokemon equivalent of Evanescence was. So that was a mental image she was stuck with forever. When Madoutsuki called out to her, she had to do a doubletake? A who? ...What? A room for what now? Her curiosity got the better of her and she carefully began sluggishly climbing up the latter, pausing glancing once over her shoulder to make sure nobody was underneath her. Thankfully it didn't take much to climb a ladder, so she got up with no problem. What she found up top though... Dawn gawked at the Sonic memorabilia.
“*Snerk* Wow. Someone's got a pokecrush~♪ What a goofy looking 'mon~”
“...Hold on a moment.” Dawn remarked, before doing some amateur photography around the room. She knew the chances of her being able to release those photos without incriminating herself were pretty low, but perhaps they might have some other uses... “Got it. ...The room's kind of cute, don't you think? Let's not mess with it. I'd feel really bad if we ruined someone's childhood memories for no reason.” Dawn asked and then continued on to suggest.
After joining Madoutsuki at the front, Dawn had to stifle a yelp of surprise as the gagged woman was freed from the room. That certainly scared her a bit, however her brain quickly caught up to her and she realized this woman was clearly a prisoner. She kinda shifts over and crouches down with her knees pressed together. First she fusses with the ropes. Then she gets down on her knees and bites at the ropes. And when that doesn't work, she pulls a nail clipper out of her purse and begins awkwardly trying to clip the ropes. “Man... They made it look so much easier on TV.” Dawn softly whined. Given a bit of time she'd probably get the knots undone, but only after fussing with it for a minute or three.
